The variety was born sometime in the 18th century from the crossing of Cabernet Franc ๐Ÿท and Sauvignon Blanc ๐Ÿ‡. It spread to the world from Bordeaux, France ๐ŸŒ. It is the basis of one of the best-known blends at home, the Bordeaux blend, which is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon ๐Ÿท, Cabernet Franc ๐Ÿ‡ and Merlot ๐Ÿท.


Worldwide, it is grown on nearly 290,000 hectares ๐ŸŒฑ, making it the largest amount of blue grapes ๐Ÿ‡.
Its wines are characterized by higher-than-average alcohol, big body and high tannins ๐Ÿท, excellent in acidity and aromatics, if cultivated by careful hands ๐Ÿ™Œ. Its best wines can be aged for more than 10 years โณ.
Its main production areas outside of France are ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท Chile ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฑ, the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ, Australia ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ, Spain ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ, China ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ, Argentina ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ท, Italy ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น and South Africa ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ.
In Hungary, we can find them from Szekszรกrd ๐Ÿ‡, Villรกny ๐Ÿท and Eger on the shelves of stores as varieties or hybrids ๐Ÿ›’.
Its characteristic scent and taste notes include black cherry ๐Ÿ’, black currant ๐Ÿ‡, graphite ๐Ÿ–Š๏ธ and sweet spices ๐ŸŒฟ. Depending on the maturity, it also contains vegetable aromas, e.g. green pepper ๐Ÿซ‘, mint ๐ŸŒฟ.


It is often aged in barrels ๐Ÿ›ข๏ธ, which specifically favors the variety, due to the softening effect of tannins, and barrel spices such as vanilla ๐Ÿฆ, smoke ๐Ÿ”ฅ or coffee โ˜• also appear in it.
It can be perfectly paired with food ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ, be it grilled meats ๐Ÿ–, peppery and spicy sauces ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ or dishes with a more intense flavor ๐Ÿฒ.
Its consumption is recommended at 16-18 degrees Celsius, in a large, stemmed wine glass ๐Ÿท.
